Did you know that less than half of Americans actually like their jobs? And that isn’t always because of the work itself, the location, or the pay. It’s about the people. An article in the Huffington Post says, “Camaraderie at work — or even just the opportunity for it — has been found to not just make for a happy employee but a more effective business as a whole.” And at Navigate, we’ve got a lot of camaraderie. If you don’t know this side of us, I’d like to share a little bit of it with you.
One thing you need to know about us is that we really like personality tests. We’ve all taken the Myers Briggs (the majority of us are ENFPs; I am an ENFJ), and we know each other’s personalities and work styles. We also like the Enneagram (I’m a 2 wing 3). For us, personality tests show us how we’re wired (and how our clients are wired), and it helps us relate better to each other and our clients.
Lots of marketing companies are made up of all young hip Millennials. And while some might say we’re hip, we’re not all young or all Millennials (although we love Millennials and hate all the flack they get). We range in age from 24 to 50. So that makes us Millennials and Generation X and even Xennials, if you’re talking micro-generations.
We’ve got entrepreneurs and business-minded people, people who have years of experience in the non-profit world, musicians, outdoor enthusiasts, and former and current food service workers. We can help you organize your business, run a marketing campaign, and make you a killer brand strategy. But we could also cook you an amazing meal, write you an original song, and teach you how to stay alive if you get lost in the woods.
We are parents of kids from age 4 to age 18. We are youngest siblings and oldest siblings (just one of us is a middle child — can you guess who?). We are single, divorced, married, and in long-term relationships. We love our families, and we consider our work team to be family, too.
We fight over what temperature to keep the office (Women’s Winter, anyone?), and there’s usually at least one space heater going in the office during all seasons. We talk about news, politics, trivia, family, and business. We share with each other and are there for each other when life throws us curveballs.
We really love to talk music, even when we have differing opinions. We even have a band! We send each other Bitmojis just for fun (see our Bitmoji characters in the header image). We have an area on our whiteboard for funny quotes (some of our favorites are “I just want to be rich enough to put guacamole on all my food,” “The sweet release of pajama pants,” and “Here comes (insert name here)…change your attitude!”).
We work out together (at Rob Kean’s Body Shop — check it out!), hang out together, and, of course, work together. We are passionate about what we do, and about doing our best work. And we care about our clients and their success. The work is important. But in the end, what really makes us a great team and helps us do our best work is that we’re not just coworkers — we’re friends too.
Thanks for being a part of Navigate!
